Clusters of common cattails, which appear in the Japanese mythological story “Inaba no Shiro Usagi (The Hare of Inaba)”, stretch as far as the eye can see in the marsh in the Chikae district of Ohzu-shima Island. The vast marsh, originally a bay constructed to transport large pieces of rock to build the stone walls of the Osaka Castle in the Edo Era, now offers home to the plants that form brown ears in the beginning of September. The approach to the Itsukushima Shrine that stretches out through the marsh creates a mystical atmosphere.
