Tamanoya-jinja Srine is Ichi-no-Miya in Suo Province (the highest-ranked shrine in Suo Province)and its precise year of the establishment is unknown but it is said that the Emperor Keiko stopped by at this place on the way to southern Kyushu to conquer Kumaso (ancient residents in southern Kyushu who disobeyed the Emperor), so that Tamanoya-jinja is a shrine with a long and distinguished history of 2000 years. The Enshrined God, Tamanoya-no-Mikoto was the ancestor of Tamasuri-no-Muraji worshipped as a god and dedicated Yasakani-no-Magatama, one of "Three Sacred Imperial Treasures" when Amaterasu-Omikami (the Sun Goddess) was hiding in Ama-no-Iwato (heavenly rock cave). It is said that the ceremony of "Urate-no-Shinji" carried out at an annual shrine festival originated in the fortune divination of the army of Emperor Chuai and Empress Jingu. This ceremony has been designated as Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Yamaguchi Prefecture.
