Hagi city was founded by Mōri Terumoto in 1604. Since that time, Hagi castle town flourished as the heart of the Hagi domain for nearly 260 years. Much of the traditional layout and historical heritage of the town has been preserved, and even today, Edo period maps can still be used to find one’s way around the city. The Tōgei no Mura Park viewpoint is the ideal place from which to overlook the castle town and the many islands visible in the Sea of Japan.
