The Akiyoshidai Karst Viewing Deck is located south of the Eastern part of Akiyoshidai . You can see Karst topography and grassland landscapes from this location. When you are in a position facing the grassland from this location, you can see a border-like feature on the left hand side, situated between the grassland and the forest. This patch is called ‘‘Himichi’’, meaning ‘‘Path of Fire’’. This is a managed buffer zone between the grassland and the forest.
Grasslands were repeatedly cleared and burnt from olden times . The grassland of Akiyoshidai is still burnt every year in February. The ‘‘Himichi’’ buffer patch protects the forest from catching fire when the grassland is burnt. You can also get a good view of different landscapes such as the doline formations and the different shapes of surrounding mountains from this location.
